Who are we

More Than Volleyball

Pink Kelpie started as a small group of friends who came together to play volleyball after lockdown. We met at least once a week at different venues around Glasgow, and when we weren’t on court, we were often together somewhere else, sharing culture, food, drinks, stories, laughter and friendship.

We originally called ourselves the Super Gay Group, a name that reflected our sense of humour and the community we were creating. But as the group grew, so did our ambition.

Today, Pink Kelpie is a community volleyball club serving the wider LGBTQIA+ community and allies. While volleyball is at the heart of what we do, our club is about much more than sport. For many of our members, it provides a sense of belonging, friendship, confidence and connection and that’s what we want them to feel.

We have seen first-hand how sport can have a positive impact on both physical and mental wellbeing, particularly in a world where many people experienced isolation and disconnection during and after COVID-19. Creating a welcoming space where people can be active, socialise and be themselves is at the heart of Pink Kelpie.

As a growing community club, we are constantly evolving. Our dedicated volunteer committee works behind the scenes to keep the club moving forward, while our volunteer coaches support players across beginner, recreational and competitive levels.

And we are taking Pink Kelpie beyond our home court.

Our members have represented the club at events including the Scottish Open Volleyball Tournament, Lyon EuroGames 2025, Valencia Gay Games 2026 and Amsterdam’s Sinterklaas Tournament 2026. In September 2026, we are taking on the Scottish Cup, with Cardiff EuroGames 2027 already on the horizon.

Along the way, we are winning medals, building friendships and creating opportunities for people to feel part of something bigger.

Pink Kelpie is more than a volleyball club. We are building a community through sport, one where everyone has a place on the court.
